It's been a long while since I've updated the release of GoMobile, but it should be worth the wait! There have been several bugs resolved, theme tweaks, performance boosts, and code rewrites in Beta 4 since Beta 3. Provided everything runs smoothly across the board, Beta 4 should be the final beta stage for GoMobile 1.0! Here's a small list of the changes in Beta 4.
Minor installation-check bug which affected larger boards
Bug which caused multiple template edits to be made and not undone
Improved forum index which cuts down on images, and uses colors instead to indicate the presence of new posts
Colored images have been desaturated for the purpose of future recoloring plans
User Agent strings are now stored in the cache, meaning there is one less global query, with the added benefits of increased speed*
In addition to the new UA String storage system, regexes have been renamed to strings as the added capabilites of preg_match are not needed and thus have been replaced with stristr, in turn making the list of User Agents more user-friendly*
Added toggle switch to enable/disable theme permissions for GoMobile, further decreasing query count (-1)**
New, matching redirect pages
GoMobile now uses pre-available variables and CSS to style items, rather than specific functions and extra queries
And many more tweaks (mostly under the hood)!
* Average sized sites may not see a huge benefit in terms of speed (if any), however larger, more cumbersome boards utilizing advanced caching methods will most likely see a performance gain compared to Beta 3
** If the setting is not enabled, GoMobile will work normally, disregarding permissions set at the theme level via the Templates & Style section of your AdminCP. If you do not use or require group-specific theme permissions, it is recommended that you disable this option to save a global query.
Installation & upgrading instructions are included in the README.txt file, so please look over that before performing any actions. Due to the new way that the is_installed function works, it is CRUCIAL that you UNINSTALL THE CURRENT PLUGIN BEFORE UPLOADING THE NEW FILES. More information can be found in the readme. You must also delete the old theme and templates to ensure you're using the latest. It is not recommended that you only upgrade the theme or vice versa (ie. only the plugin and not the theme).
Thanks for this release go out to Tomm M (for continued development support) and pavemen, for suggesting the new is_installed function (which may or may not cause issues, which is mainly why we're still in beta ).
Thanks again for your continued support, and if you have any questions, concerns, or have found any bugs please don't hesitate to let me know!
Since our initial public beta release, several issues have been pointed out as well as some feature suggestions. I'm pleased to announce that the requested features have been added, and the reported bugs have been mostly squashed. This release also marks the new GoMobile design, which was slightly updated from the original to make less-important items smaller and make the theme flow a bit more.
Since Beta 1, the following features have been added (in no specific order):
Quote:- Updated many images to be compatible with high-res phones & devices
- Updated style (namely table heads, the header, and the User CP)
- You can now limit which groups may use GoMobile, via the theme permissions setting when editing the properties of the GoMobile theme
- You can now use a custom breadcrumb title if your default one is too long (see GoMobile settings)
- You can now use a shorter & different homepage URL in the footer (see GoMobile settings)
- Closed threads are now highlighted in red
- Fixed issues regarding SEO URLs (not thoroughly tested)
- Fixed a bug where an image was missing
Larger boards may choose to remove certain features from their board, or hard-code them in, as currently the several additional queries made may affect the performance of high-traffic boards. When the gold release is made available, more information will be available on the documentation.
On that note, there are now two separate and detailed articles in our documentation which we encourage you to consult:
If you are installing GoMobile for the first time, simply upload all of the files contained in the download package (see the Upload folder) and then activate the plugin in your AdminCP. For current users wishing to update, we currently don't have any update procedures integrated so you'll have to uninstall and reinstall as follows (following these steps is crucial as you will encounter errors otherwise):
Quote:1. First, uninstall GoMobile. Do not upload the new files or you will receive MySQL errors upon uninstallation.
2. Delete the theme and it's template set. You will lose all modifications, so make note of them before doing this.
3. Upload the new files.
4. Install & activate.
As always, there may be bugs or issues with this as I haven't had time to thoroughly test it (though I can ensure it will install ). If you encounter any, please let me know as soon as possible so I can correct them.
Thanks for your feedback and I hope you enjoy this second public beta
As many of you have requested, I've finally gotten around to packaging it up and releasing it. I've posted the release thread over @ MyBB.com and MyBB Runway, however the one at MyBB.com is still awaiting activation.
No explanation is necessary, really. Screenshots and download are attached. I only have two criteria;
1 - Don't remove the copyrights
2 - If redistributing, you must attribute NanoSkinners.com
If you're curious to see what we've been up to lately in terms of new features, updates and changes, the best place to get up to date is simply visiting MyBBGM.com on your mobile device.
Since it's generally easier for me to work on GoMobile on a live site (allows me to quickly view it on my iPod without much hassle), I've switched over the theme work from localhost. As a result, any changes I make will be live here immediately, so you can provide feedback based on what you like or dislike.
Plugin-wise, I'll be making small updates here and there. As far as anything beyond if statements goes, I'll leave that to Tomm since last time I attempted a rather large step (for myself anyways) I ended up making the entire plugin useless
Anywho, that's your update for today folks. Thanks for reading!
After months of hard work, private beta testing and preparation, we are ready to release the 1st public beta of MyBB GoMobile!
I've taken some time to create a new theme for the website. The goal was to create a skeleton, more or less, that could be utilized for both forums as well as a well-structured website. Using this theme allows me to create new pages that match but still look good.
I'd like to thank all of the beta testers who have contributed their feedback during the private beta! Without you, this wouldn't have been possible Beta Testers will still remain in that group, however I'll be changing the display style a little bit as to avoid confusion between the testers and official staff. I'll also be archiving the beta testing forums until next time.
The intention of this now public beta is to gather more feedback from a much larger audience. We have three simple requests before you go and download GoMobile;
1 - Keep the copyright. We've put a lot of effort into this, so the least you can do is keep the copyright in tact. Same goes for the MyBB copyright. Remove either and you don't get support - simple enough.
2 - Try to avoid extensive modifications. Updates will be made very frequently and thus custom edits will be lost.
3 - Provide feedback! We need to hear back from users of GoMobile, both admins and forum visitors, so we can improve GoMobile.
All feedback can be posted in the appropriate forum. Support and all other discussions, too, go on the forums.
That's it! Now that you've gotten the info, you're ready to go.. right? Yep! A little bit more information and the download can be found here:
Over time we will add new pages to the site to incorporate new features and whatnot, such as FAQs and documentation.. so expect a lot more over the next few months. Additionally, this hasn't been uploaded to the MyBB Mods site. Why, you may ask? Simply because the approval process tends to be a little slow, and this is a beta anyways. Once we've cleared the beta you can rest assured the latest version will be available on the mods site

I've received a few applications lately, so I'll post this here to help clear any confusion. The period in which we would be accepting new beta testers is closed. We currently have a sufficient number of beta testers to complete the tasks we require.
If you're interested in helping out, direct your forum users to these forums so they can make suggestions and provide feedback. Additionally, keep your eyes open for future beta testing opportunities.
